The Sri Lankan Majlis Qatar (SLMQ), a prominent community organization established in 2001, has steadfastly supported the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Qatar while extending its humanitarian and social efforts to Sri Lanka. SLMQ remains committed to fostering unity and inspiring positive change within local and expatriate communities through education, religious, social welfare, sports, and community engagement initiatives.
Celebrating a milestone, SLMQ recently hosted its 21st Annual Symposium at the Time Rako Hotel in Wakrah, drawing participation from member families, community leaders, professionals, sponsors, and dignitaries. The event was themed ‘Collective Responsibility,’ underscoring SLMQ’s dedication to empowering communities and driving meaningful social development.
In his welcome address, SLMQ President Br. Abdul Rahman reflected on the organization’s enduring role as a pioneering force since 2001. He highlighted SLMQ’s impact on education, welfare, and community initiatives, illustrating the organization’s deep-rooted commitment to “Collective Responsibility” through various projects in Qatar and Sri Lanka. He recalled vital initiatives, including relief efforts during natural disasters, tsunami aid, and COVID-19 support for Sri Lankan hospitals.
The event also recognized the achievements of SLMQ members’ children. These young achievers, celebrated for their academic degrees, professional certifications, and religious accolades, represent the community’s future leaders. This recognition aligns with SLMQ’s commitment to fostering excellence across diverse fields.
This year’s Symposium featured inspiring, pre-recorded video messages from distinguished guest speakers Dr. Zakir Naik and Sheikh Yawar Baig, who shared profound insights on “Collective Responsibility” from Islamic and cultural perspectives, motivating the audience to embrace unity, empathy, and shared responsibility.
Chief Guest H.E. Mafaz Mohideen, the outgoing Sri Lankan Ambassador to Qatar, graced the event, commending SLMQ’s significant contributions to community cohesion and social development. He praised SLMQ’s role in uniting the Sri Lankan expatriate community and fostering a supportive environment anchored in shared purpose.
Additional highlights included the relaunch of SLMQ’s website, unveiling a commemorative souvenir, and a special video presentation tracing SLMQ’s journey from 2001 to 2024. The evening was concluded with a vote of thanks from Chief Event Coordinator Br. Ayoub Fazil reaffirmed SLMQ’s vision of community support and empowerment. The event’s resounding message was one of unity and collective responsibility, and this guiding principle continues to shape SLMQ’s impactful mission.
